Duchy of Cornwall

We were asked by the Duchy of Cornwall to attend their head office at 10 Buckingham Gate London, to advise on remedial and upgrading works required to the building. Following our initial inspection, we recommended that in order to identify all the works required a Planned Preventative Maintenance survey should be undertaken, which would prioritise the works and provide budget costs.

We were instructed to undertake the survey which included reviewing the mechanical and electrical installations. During our survey it became very apparent that the condition of the stonework, particularly above the front portico, was in a very poor condition and the stucco finish to the façade had been painted with inappropriate paint. We presented our report to The Duchy and were subsequently instructed to tender the works.

The works consisted of the replacement of the defective flat roofs, window repairs, stonework repairs, external decorations, boiler replacement, electrical upgrading works and general minor internal repairs. Commencement of the internal works began whilst waiting for listed building consent for the external works and once this was obtained, these were commenced.

This project has presented a number of challenges due to its location, access and following the removal of the painted finish to the stucco, the extent of the stonework repairs beneath was far more substantial than first anticipated, however, the removal of the paint did reveal unseen detailing, which previously could not be seen. The project is now fully completed, and the results really are spectacular. We are very proud to have been involved with the restoration of such a beautiful building in the heart of London.
